Improve Your Health

It certainly does seem that we are being told over and over that stress is the number one cause in our ailing health reports.  We are given prescriptions to numb and medicate the symptoms until they can not be medicated anymore, by this time we are into full blown disease.  If you are at this point, there is still hope for your health recovery, however, that discussion and suggestions for you will have to be in another blog post.  If this is not you, yet, and you have fears that you may be headed down that particular road, then read on.

The “taking back control” of your health is serious business and not intended for those who find it challenging to confront the brutal truth of their health state .  If you can seriously commit to being honest with yourself and eventually those closest to you, then you truly have a fighting chance to win what will be a totally self-imposed challenge.  I urge you to be patient with this process and most importantly yourself, because honestly, this is the only body you have.

Now, let us begin slowly to take some steps to better health :

  • Start by  taking 1-2 hours to sit quietly and really assess what you can about where your health lies.  Write it all down.
      • When was the last time you had a physical and what were the results and/or recommendations by your physician? Was there serious discussion about a particular condition?  Were prescription drugs prescribed?
      • What is the condition of your skin, teeth and nails? Are you using topical creams/lotions to treat any skin conditions?
      • Has there been any recurring illnesses, conditions or symptoms you have had to repeatedly address over the last 5 years, if so, this where you could start.
      • What does your current diet consist of?  Where is most of your money spent when you feed your body?
  • Take what you have written and break it down into sections:
    • What were the results and recommendations at your last physical, were you given prescriptions?
    • Are you taking prescriptions? If you are, continue to do so until you can get your diet in check
    • What are the ingredients in your prescriptions and what specifically are they for?
  • Examine you eating habits daily, be honest and write down every morsel and beverage that enters your mouth.  You really do not have to do this long to discover that you may need to make some drastic changes.

Read everything you have written down several times, each time you should tweak it by adding as much detail as you can remember.  I promise that if and when you do this, you find that you have come up with a pretty accurate picture of your current health situation and how you got there to begin with. You will also have a great indication of where some immediate changes would provide you the benefits you need continue your quest for better health.

I believe you can tell where I am going with this and should you decide to embark on this life changing journey, I can promise you it will not be a simple task.  We have given this responsibility of minding our health to so many other people (our physicians, doctors, practitioners, HMO groups/corporations) to take care of it for us.  It seems so much easier to continue on allowing another person and/or HMO corporation to tell you how to mind your body.

I was overwhelmed when I finally made the decision to take back the responsibility to mind my health all by myself.  I was unsure and also not very happy about the choice to change my diet.  Looking back, I really felt as though I had no other choice.  At the time that I made this decision, my current health plan was literally  a joke.  Previously, I had always had major coverage with a very popular HMO for most of my adult life and had never been in a situation where I had concerns about receiving nothing but the best care.  But at this time I was a contract worker and I was worried about going into the hospital under such low health coverage.  I ultimately decided to treat myself and made a commitment to give one thousand percent to get well on my own.  Making the decision to do so paid off royally and was the most challenging endeavor I have confronted in my life up to this point.  I have done it and when I tell you that it is the most freeing feeling you will ever feel, trust that you can do it too.

Because rest assuredly that your current health situation, if this is your situation,  is diet related.  If you are not dying your last breath today or this week, your condition or disease can be reversed.

I am not a doctor, a scientist, a health professional or medical scholar for that matter.  I am a woman who decided, to take personal responsibility for my health.  Armed with common sense, a more than average knowledge of herbs, and pumped up courage I embarked on a challenging journey to the best health I have ever experienced in my 50 years on this planet.
